The Big Swiss Quiz 2020
December 6, 2020, 6 Comments
Why not end 2020 with a bang? Have a go at my Big Swiss Quiz and maybe win one of six great prizes on offer. Or just do the quiz for fun!
What can you win? The wonderful prizes include trips up mountains, vintage posters and ski passes, plus signed books for those who can’t get to Switzerland next year. Six chances to win.
There are 30 questions, with six posted here each weekday this week starting Monday 7 December. It’s easy to enter (details below) but before that, here are the prizes.
Prize number one: Jungfraujoch tickets. The train ride from Interlaken to Europe’s highest train station (above) is one of Switzerland’s most spectacular railway journeys. Two return tickets courtesy of the Jungfraubahn railway.
Prize number two: Titlis tickets. A rotating cable car that whisks you up to the icy summit of Titlis, high above the little town of Engelberg. There’s no other rmountain trip like it. Two return tickets thanks to Engelberg Tourism.
Prize number three: Schilthorn tickets. The peak that’s home to a revolving restaurant with 360° views of the Berner Oberland, plus there’s James Bond world (and it’s all very clean, as this video shows). Two return tickets provided by Schilthorn Cableway.
Prize number four: vintage posters. A set of five beautiful travel posters (copies not originals!), featuring the lakes, mountains and towns of Switzerland’s sunniest canton, Ticino. Two poster sets kindly offered by Ticino Tourism.
Prize number five: ski pass in Vals. Two day ski passes in one of the highest ski areas in Graubünden, with 25km of pistes and panorama views from close to 3000m up. Passes are also valid for 2021/22 winter season and provided by Graubünden Tourism.
Prize number six: Slow Train to Switzerland. My bestselling book telling how I retraced the route of Thomas Cook’s pioneering tour of Switzerland. Three chances to win a signed hardback copy, with postage included.
Here are the rules:
Each answer is a whole number (no fractions or decimal points) and by the end, you’ll have 30 numbers. Add them up and that’s your final answer!
Once you have that total number, all you have to do is get it to me:
- send me an email
- leave a comment here
- post on my Facebook page
- tweet on my Twitter feed
All correct entries will go into a draw. Deadline is 15 December.
As an added bonus, there’s one extra signed book on offer for those who share the quiz on Facebook or retweets about it on Twitter. Each share or retweet goes into a draw to win a hardback copy of Slow Train to Switzerland. No answers necessary!
All mountain tickets are valid for one year only. The tickets and ski passes are really only suitable for people living in Switzerland, or those sure to come next year, as they don’t include flights or trains to reach the destinations. If you’re unlikely to be able to make use of them, please tell me so that someone else can win one. It’s only fair. I will draw the tickets and passes first and contact the winners to be sure they can use them.
Entrants must be 18 or over. Deadline is 23:59 Swiss time on 15 December 2020. Ticket and pass winners must live in Switzerland or be able to travel here next year. No cash substitutes are possible for any of the prizes.
